Hey there, superheroes! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️ Swami K here, welcoming you back to another episode of ‘Coffee Bytes with DevOps’! ☕️ Today, let’s talk about defeating the ultimate villain — WASTE! 💣 Just like Thanos wiping out half the universe, waste eradicates your efficiency and productivity. But fear not, for we shall conquer it! 😎

🌊 Ride the wave of efficiency!🏄 Ditch waste, embrace learning, and let your workflow be the master! 🌟🏆 | @iSwamiK

🌊 Ride the wave of efficiency!🏄 Ditch waste, embrace learning, and let your workflow be the master! 🌟🏆

So, what’s the big deal about waste? 🤔 Shigeo Shingo, one of the brains behind the Toyota Production System, pointed out that waste is a massive threat to business success. Waste, in Lean terms, is anything the customer doesn’t need or won’t pay for. But hold up! Modern Lean thinking focuses on reducing hardship and drudgery instead of “eliminating waste,” which sounds a tad harsh. 💼🌈

Our trusty sidekicks, Mary and Tom Poppendieck, in their book “Implementing Lean Software Development,” define waste as anything causing delays for customers. Now, let’s break down the types of waste and hardship we want to Hulk-smash in our quest for a seamless value stream: 🟢

1️⃣ Partially done work: Unfinished work or work stuck in queues 🗂️

2️⃣ Extra processes: Additional, non-value adding steps 📝

3️⃣ Extra features: Unnecessary features that complicate things 🎛️

4️⃣ Task switching: Juggling multiple projects, causing delays 🤹‍♂️

5️⃣ Waiting: Delays that increase cycle time ⏳

6️⃣ Motion: Effort spent moving information or materials 🏃‍♀️

7️⃣ Defects: Incorrect, unclear, or missing info or products 🔍

8️⃣ Nonstandard/manual work: Reliance on others or manual processes 🔧

9️⃣ Heroics: Unreasonable acts to achieve goals 🦸‍♂️

By identifying and addressing these wastes, we can assemble our own Avengers team of efficiency and productivity! 🚀 Let’s commit to a future where waste is defeated, and our value streams flow fast and free. 💪

What are your thoughts on these types of waste? 🤔 Have you encountered any other villains in your value stream? Share your stories in the comments below! ⬇️ Let’s create a universe of unstoppable DevOps heroes together! 🌟
