Creating Safety is a Team Sport 🤝: Lessons from Soccer and Leadership 🏆
Building safety is like playing soccer — it takes teamwork, communication, and quick reactions. 🏆⚽️
Today, let’s talk about building safety. 🏢🚧
Building safety isn’t just about following a set of instructions like a robot. It’s more like playing soccer. ⚽️ You need to be able to read the situation, react quickly, and communicate with your teammates. 🤝
When we work with others, it’s natural to want to hide our weaknesses and look like we know what we’re doing. But that doesn’t make things safe. It’s better to be honest, and admit when we need help. 🆘
Leaders can help create safety by asking for input and feedback from everyone. 👥 It’s important to be open to hearing bad news or tough feedback instead of just ignoring it.
Instead of giving feedback like a sandwich 🥪 (with a compliment, criticism, and another compliment), it’s better to separate the positive and negative feedback. 🙅♀️🙅♂️
Leaders should ask for feedback and openly discuss how to improve. Then, when they see something they like, they should give bursts of praise and recognition. 🌟
Remember, building safety is like playing soccer: you need to be able to read the situation, react quickly, and communicate with your team. 🤝 It’s important to be honest, ask for help, and give feedback that helps people grow. 🌱
