Now, Swami K is a BIG fan of drawing parallels between our cloud journeys and the MCU — yep, you heard right, the Marvel Cinematic Universe! 🎥🦸♂️ Swami says, “If Thor can handle an Infinity Stone, we can handle cloud migration!” 💪💎 So, buckle up folks, because we’re about to embark on a seven-step Cloud Migration adventure, and it’s gonna be as epic as ‘Avengers: Endgame’! 🌟🌈
Let’s dive right in! 🏊♂️💨
Step 1: It’s like choosing your superhero identity. Are you Iron Man, replacing your old tech with cutting-edge suits, aka, a Software as a Service system? 🦾💻 Or are you the Hulk, reusing and dividing your application like Hulk’s flexing muscles? 💚💪 Remember, your application is your power, so choose wisely! 🔮🔐
Step 2: Refactoring. Now, this is the equivalent of Tony Stark tweaking his Iron Man suits to perform at their best. You alter your application to be more cloud native, making it as efficient as Stark’s Mark 50! 🚀🛠️
Step 3: Replatforming, or as we like to call it, the Spider-Man switch. It’s like shifting from Sony’s universe to the MCU — you’re placing your application on a different cloud platform than its traditional system of origin 🕷️🔄.
Step 4: Rehosting. Think of it as Thor bringing Asgard to Earth — we’re lifting and shifting, moving the application to the cloud without modification 🌍🏰.
Step 5: Retaining. Just like Cap deciding not to use the time stone to fix his shield 🛡️⏳. Sometimes, you just don’t move the application.
Step 6: Retirement. You know, like Tony Stark after ‘Endgame.’ Some applications, just like our heroes, have served their time and need to be removed completely from service 🦸♂️⏲️.
Step 7: It’s all about balance, just like Thanos says! You need to understand the cost of your resources, the people, and the time taken to migrate to the cloud. And, like any good superhero, make sure that the value of your efforts exceeds your investment 💵⚖️.
Planning for cloud migration is not all that different from planning a mission to take down Thanos 💡🔨. You need to understand your data, services, business processes, system integration points, and determine an integration strategy. Just like the Avengers, make sure you outline a clear path and understand the value of each step 🛣️🌟. And remember, not all your systems need to make the move. Some, just like our heroes, might be better off where they are 👣🏞️.
